The VPN client (Nortell Contivity) was provided by my company, and is a customized version specific to the company's VPN. I believe it takes over TCP/IP so that the local net is not visible via TCP. In the past I used a different protocol (NWLink) to get from the VPN'd laptop to the home machine's printer. That doesn't work in Vista.
