Clearwire's modems never had the ability to connect to any network other than the Clearwire network, so now that that's gone, this is basically a very expensive paperweight…
Clearwire can't break the laws of physics, the modem does need a line of sight, through radio signal, to tower. Putting the modem next to your computer or even on a microwave does not improve the modem's connectivity. 1st ClearWire modem sucked. I exchanged it for another. 2nd ClearWire modem was just as bad. Best performance was about 700 down and 200 up but more typical was 500 down and 55 up. Repeated calls to service to ask for on-site support and I get "you are getting a great signal" we can verify this right now. You are getting what we advertise! When the modem came I hooked it up but there was no signal. I called Clearwire and they told me that I would have to pay $100 to turn the modem on. At the time when I sent the retention department did not tell me that I would have to $100 to turn the modem on. I am very upset with Clearwire.
So, this might not be the right sub for this but ClearWire was bought out by Sprint. The service has been terminated (as of last week). Can the WiMax modem be repurposed in any way?
